Assistive Technology referrals — match, trial & integrate AT
Refer someone for an Assistive Technology (AT) trial or AT matching service. We support AAC, alternative input devices, specialised access tools and classroom integration with clinical/educator collaboration.
Use this intake when a learner or participant may benefit from AT assessment, a short trial, or specialist configuration. We work with schools, clinicians, families and community services to deliver practical trials and handover guidance.

AT trial process — what happens next
- Triage & acknowledgement: we acknowledge referrals and triage urgency. Urgent referrals are flagged for contact within 48 hours; routine referrals are acknowledged within five business days.
- Consent & scoping: we contact the person/guardian to confirm consent and clarify goals and context with teachers/clinicians as needed.
- Assessment & match: a short scoping assessment (phone or face-to-face) to identify suitable AT options and clinician involvement.
- Trial arrangement: equipment is configured for a short trial (typically 2–6 weeks). We supply trial checklists, family/school guidance and training session(s).
- Review & handover: after trial we review outcomes with referrers and recommend next steps — adoption, procurement-ready specs, further clinical support, or return of equipment.
Deliverables from a standard trial include: pre-configured device, trial checklist, short training session for staff/family, trial outcomes summary and procurement notes if adoption is recommended.

Frequently asked questions
- Who pays for specialist devices?
- Short trials are provided by EduLinked/Bellbowrie Connected or partners where available. Long-term procurement is the responsibility of the adopting organisation or family; we provide procurement-ready specifications and budgeting notes to support local purchase or funding applications.
- Is a clinician required?
- Some devices (e.g. eye-gaze systems) require clinical input. Where clinical support is recommended we will coordinate with local allied health partners or advise on clinician referral pathways.
- What if the person is at school?
- We work closely with teachers and school IT/SSO teams to ensure devices integrate with classroom practices and network configurations. We provide teacher-facing training and Easy Read classroom prompts.
- How long does a trial take?
- Typical trials run 2–6 weeks. Time to start depends on urgency, device availability and configuration complexity. Expect initial contact within five business days for routine referrals.
- Who sees the referral?
- Referral information is handled by EduLinked/Bellbowrie Connected and shared only with trusted partner clinicians, suppliers and the referrer as needed for the trial, and only with consent.
Need urgent advice?
