Spatial Learning Node — Prototype

A small learning system that uses space and objects to help learners explore and practise skills. This is a prototype for classroom and community use.

In short

The Spatial Learning Node is a small device and simple software. It helps learners move, place objects, and see how actions link to learning activities. It is hands-on and easy to use.

Who this helps

  • Teachers and classroom teams
  • Students who learn by doing and moving
  • Support staff and therapists
  • Community groups running activity sessions

What it does

The Node links the real world to simple learning tasks. It can:

  • Sense objects, movement and place
  • Give sounds, lights or messages when a task is done
  • Work with symbols and simple on-screen prompts
  • Record simple progress and suggestions for the teacher

Design features

  • Hands-on: learners touch, move or place items to learn
  • Accessible: large controls, simple language and symbol support
  • Flexible: works with many tasks — reading, counting, movement games
  • Teacher tools: short setup guides and classroom activity sheets

How it works

1
Set up — the teacher puts the Node on a table or wall and connects a kit of objects.
2
Choose activity — pick a short activity from a list (e.g., sorting, matching, movement).
3
Learner does task — the learner moves or places objects. The Node gives simple feedback.
4
Teacher reviews — short notes show progress and suggest next steps.

Who can run sessions

  • Classroom teachers with a short guide
  • Support staff running small groups
  • Therapists using the Node for trials
  • Volunteers with simple training

Trial & pilot

We run short pilots with schools or community groups. Pilots help us check what works and make easy guides for teachers.

Pilots include teacher briefing, a short kit loan and follow up to collect feedback.
