Digital Literacy Basics
Short, friendly learning for people new to devices. We teach phones, tablets, internet safety and using services online.

People who are new to technology, or who want to feel more confident. Also good for carers and volunteers who support learners.

Learning outcomes
By the end you will be able to:
- Turn on and use a phone, tablet or laptop.
- Send email and join a video call.
- Search the web and use bookmarks.
- Keep accounts safe and spot scams.
- Use simple online services like booking or school portals.
Format & time
Duration: About 10–14 learning hours.
Format: Short workshops plus guided practice. Small groups and volunteer helpers for 1:1 support.
Materials: Easy Read handouts, step-by-step guides and short video clips with captions.
Syllabus — short modules
- Intro & device basics: turning on, charging, simple navigation, accessibility settings.
- Communication: email, messaging and video calls.
- Browsing & searching: finding safe information and saving it.
- Privacy & security: passwords, updates and spotting scams.
- Using services: booking, forms and school portals.
- Troubleshooting: simple fixes and where to get more help.
